As I was working on pomegranates two days ago, I also got started on this pattern, which happened more by accident. I’m really happy with it!

Wanted to do a pattern featuring little houses. I love my Paris Row Homes pattern, but I wanted something a little more free flowing this time!

A nice, fresh floral for Mother’s Day!

Okay, obviously I need to get back into the habit of posting these every day. Here’s a massive, month-long catch-up!

It’s time for me to catch up a little! I’ve been posting patterns to Instagram, but haven’t been good about updating the blog. Here we go!

Let’s start with my favorite of these catch-up patterns. I have called this Fauna & Flora. I’ve mentioned that I’m drawn to folk art lately. In this pattern, I challenged myself to create a pattern with a modern-folk-art feel by not referencing any photos in creating these animals. So these are all just drawn straight in Illustrator (with the pen tool) with no photo reference. What I learned is, I can’t draw a raccoon from memory (which is interesting considering I JUST DID a raccoon pattern, seen below). My raccoon attempts turned into the marmots (?) and the … other mystery animal in beige. What do you suppose that is? A skunk? I had so much fun making this pattern and am now thinking about what I might turn it into!

Here are some raccoons! Yay! For these, I mainly wanted to play with color (and you can see that the color experimentation carried over to the pattern above). I would love to have these guys on a shirt.

Here’s a pattern that is unexpected, even to me! I often scroll through Pinterest to find ideas for patterns. I came across a pin for DIY stick horses, and thought that stick horses as a pattern would be a novel concept. I added children’s cowboy boots in the spaces.

I would love to have this pattern as wallpaper. Happy little guys! I occasionally see woodpeckers out my office window while I’m working.

Finally here are some parade elephants. For this, I reused some old elephant artwork I created for a shower invitation for Shutterfly a couple years ago.
It is Joan’s 2nd birthday tomorrow, and I am making just a few things to make it cat-tastic.

This pattern was a little bit of a cheat since technically I made the pattern sometime last year, but I’m justifying it for a few reasons:
It’s one of my favorites, ever. I would like this in wallpaper in my office.
The peacock is so complex that it made my old computer crash. Again and again. I had to abandon it because it wasn’t accepted for the project I was working on at the time, and because I couldn’t even work in the file without any minor changes being a 45-minute commitment. I was never able to make the proper repeating tile at the time.
Yesterday I was in the office for 15 hours. It was time to go home and I just needed a sort of free pass.

I think I’m taking a little creative license here, because I’m not sure that such multi-color homes exist in Paris, but the non-colorful version of this was just way too boring!

On the weekends I have a little more time for patterns. On this pattern, I enjoyed developing each car and of course the double decker buses!
