Today’s pattern is a result of a lazy Saturday morning and a lot of time to play around with something that just wasn’t coming together well for me. I started with the shape below, and played around to see what I could do with it.

I was thrilled to realize that I could use it to make a heart shape. But then what? Ultimately I worked out two patterns making hearts with this shape (I also ended up with spades and diamonds… hence the name of the pattern). The next step was coloring, and this was the trickiest part. I eventually realized that color was easiest to work out with an outline around my lines, but I’m still not entirely sure that I love the result. Maybe I would love it if I saw it used on something, like a handbag or a scarf. But just as a pattern on my screen, I’m not wholly in love with it. What do you think? Love it? Lukewarm? Hate it? (I never take opinions personally, and in fact I actually really appreciate honest feedback! An “I hate it” is just as valuable to me as an “I love it!”)

In the end, I finally was able to like the pattern if I simply did a light gray background with a sea foam outline. Simple, simple.

I have to be honest (because you said to be, right?!)…I don’t like any of them at all except the last one with the light gray background and sea foam outline. You’ve done way better work. But this was a challenge, so GO YOU for tackling that beast. :)
I’ll tell you what I love, I love seeing your process.
The final one is my favorite, perhaps because I’ve been obsessed with that blue-green sea foam color lately. But I think that single weight outline is great.
